Hawaii, part 3

Before we continue on our trip, I will teach you the longest word in the Hawaiian language. Ready? You may need to take a deep breath for this one.

HUMUHUMUNUKUNUKUKUAPUA'A

It is the name for trigger fish, also the Hawaiian state fish. It looks like this:

Maybe we'll see some humuhumunukunukukuapua'a in the water? Let's head to the beach!

Our first beach is Hale'iwa Beach in North Shore, Oahu.

The beaches in the North Shore are popular for surfing, and we can see why! The waves are constantly rolling in here. In fact, today there is a high wind warning and waves of 20-30 feet high. There is a lifeguard patrolling the beach to make sure no one goes swimming today.

Next, let's go to Waimanalo Beach in Oahu where it's much calmer. No camera filter here. The water is really that blue!

It looks amazing!

The water is so clear and changes from turquoise to light blue to dark blue.

We drove around the island of Oahu and stopped at another scenic viewpoint. This is called Makapu'u Lookout. The wind was quite strong so it blew my arms up in the air, but it also looks like I am just beary excited in this photo.

Fantastic views from here also!

This is from Lanai'i Lookout.

Okay, our next stop in Hawaii is the actual Big Island of Hawaii. I wonder what we will find there. See you later, Oahu!

Icelandic króna

I forgot to show you some Icelandic króna (ISK) that I had leftover from my trip to Iceland! In Scandinavian countries, "krona" means "crown" and because these countries had kings, the currency had their crown on them. (1 USD is equal to approximately 124 ISK)

On the 500 ISK bill is Jón Sigurðsson (1811-1879). Iceland’s leading politician during the country’s fight for independence, Jón is commonly referred to as “president” Jón, even if he lived and died before Iceland ever had a president.

Ok, now are you ready to see some coins?

These are really cool coins, I promise you!

Do you notice anything interesting about these coins? They have fish on them! In Iceland, for the longest time, fish was the foundation of Iceland's economy. Here I have a 10 ISK, 50 ISK, and 100 ISK coin. The 10 ISK coin has the capelin fish on it, the 50 ISK coin has a crab on it, and the 100K ISK has a lumpfish on it. I also did some research and found that the 5 ISK coin has dolphins on it.
I wonder if there is any currency out there with bears on it...

Fish cleanup

Droopy sent me this article a few days ago. I hope the truck driver is okay! But it sounds like they need some help cleaning up this mess. I will gladly go help out!

Ohio

Hello everybody, I am in... COLUMBUS, OHIO.  (By the way, I am still waiting for my mom to go on a really cool business trip to someplace like Hawaii.)  My mom was really busy so I stayed in the hotel room most of the time and jumped on a king-sized bed and ordered room service (salmon, of course).

But I did get to go on trip to a local bookstore.  This place is called The Book Loft, and it has 32 rooms full of books!

I walked down a cobblestone alley to get to the bookstore.

This is a beary cute place.

I saw books about bears.

And fun puzzles!

And books about honey!

And Jedi training books!

I also saw Winnie the Pooh...

...and Paddington Bear.

After the bookstore, we went to an indoor market.  I liked this vendor beary much.  THE FISH GUYS.

That salmon looks fresh alright.  Mmm.

There was also a vendor selling honey.

It was a pretty short visit to Ohio, but I saw salmon and honey... what more could a little bear want?

Fish

My beary trustworthy nose smelled something... fishy.  I followed the scent and saw Uncle Tibbs in the kitchen.  He was wearing an apron.

And in front of him were two large fish.  As a fish expert, I took one glance at the fish and knew they were porgy fish.  It wasn't salmon, but fish is fish nonetheless and they are all beary tasty!

"We're having fish tonight!" he said.

Then with a sudden CHOP, Chef Tibbs sliced the fish with a big knife (recommend that only adult bears and adult non-bears use knives).

Mmm, I'm getting hungry.  Are you having fish for dinner?

Aquarium

A few days ago, my mom got me my own aquarium!  Now this is not your ordinary aquarium.  It already had some fish inside of it, and the instructions on the package said the fish would GROW.  All I had to do was to add some water.

I took the aquarium out of the package.  This is what it looked like:

Then I filled it up to the very top with water.  Mmm... these fish look good.  I wonder if they are the edible kind.

The instructions say to give the fish a few days to GROW.  So I'll put it down right here and we'll check back on it later, okay?

Okay, welcome back!  This is day 2.  The fish have gotten bigger, can you see?  Let's wait another day to see just how big they can GROW.

And here we are at day 3!  Look at how big the fish have gotten.  Mmm...fish...

Do you have an aquarium?
