Paracord bracelet

Hey everybody! Bear Cub Scout Ajdin here with today's craft project - how to make a paracord bracelet!

This is the perfect skill to learn for cub scouts everywhere. We are prepared for all emergencies and situations and paracord can be used to setting up shelter, making a tourniquet, tying up gear, and used for fishing.

Let's get started! I have a long piece of paracord here, plus a buckle closure.

I'm going to get one end of the buckle started.

I have measured my wrist and will keep that length between one buckle and the other, plus an extra inch of length so it fits comfortably.

And I'm using a simple braiding technique for this cord. There are quite a few different types of knots and patterns you can use when making your bracelet. I used a tutorial from this REI webpage:

We just keep on going until we get all the way to the end! Then, we snip off the extra part and use a flame to melt the ends together and fasten it securely.

I'm going to put it on - it fits perfectly! Now I'm ready for anything!

Bear claw stone

Hi there, Bear Cub Scout Ajdin here! Today, I wanted to show you a rare bear claw stone. Have you seen one of these before?

My beary cool Aunt Joyce found one of these and gave it to me. There aren't that many remaining in the world now. Legend has it that these stones have magical powers of .... err... something magical? They were created by the bear gods a really long time ago and sent to Earth to complete their mission of .... something something something.... I forget how the story goes!

I guess we'll have to wait and see exactly what this stone can do. In the meantime, it'll be a good paperweight! Thanks Aunt Joyce!

Badge ceremony

After I bandaged Feathers' broken wing, I brought her to meet Uncle Tibbs.

"Well hello there!" he said.  "And who do we have here?

"I am Feathers."

"I am Uncle Tibbs.  And I assume you and Ajdin have been properly introduced?"

"I was resting on a tree branch when a large icicle came crashing down.  I fell on the ground in a tizzy and broke my wing.  Ajdin came along with his first aid kit," she said.

She hopped onto his paw so he could take a closer look.

"Hmm," Uncle Tibbs said, squinting at her wing.  "I sense that you are a strong flyer.  You will be better in no time, no time at all."

He put her on the ground gently.

"Well Ajdin, this certainly seems to qualify you for the Helping Paw badge," he said.  "And perhaps Feathers would like to present it to you."  He gave the badge a final buff and polish.  It sparkled in the sun.

Feathers cleared her throat.

"For bravery and courage in helping another creature, and for exhibiting qualities of strength and kindness, I present this Helping Paw badge to Bear Cub Scout Ajdin."

She pinned it to my uniform with her one good wing.  I stood up a little straighter.

"Wow!" I gasped.  "How does it look?"

"Speech!  Speech!" they both chimed.

I thought for a moment.

"Friends... both feathered and furry... let's have some tea... with honey!"
