Ooogie's Job Update

Today, we're going to check in on our friend Ooogie to see how he's doing at his new job. I helped him find a new job about a year ago after his last one wasn't a good fit. Let's see how he's doing now.

Well, I'm here at his workplace. It looks like he has been named Employee of the Month -- for 12 straight months!

"Hiiii Ajdiiiin," said Ooogie.

"Hi Ooogie! How are you doing? How's the job going?"

"I'm gooooood. I looooove myyyy jooooob."

"Well, you must be doing great if you've been Employee of the Month for the past year -- "

"AND WHERE'S MY FAVORITE EMPLOYEE???" It was Ooogie's boss.

"Hellooooo bossssss. Thissss issss myyyy friiiiiend Ajdiiiiin."

"AHA! YOU'RE THE ONE WHO REFERRED HIM TO US!" His boss spoke very quickly and very loudly.

"Yes, I just wanted to drop by and say hello," I said.

"DID YOU KNOW THAT YOUR FRIEND OOOGIE IS A GENIUS? LET ME SHOW YOU SOME BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES OF OUR PROJECTS."

He took out a blueprint.

"OOOGIE MAY BE SLOW, BUT SLOW IS JUST WHAT OUR COMPANY NEEDED! LOOK AT THIS! IF IT WASN'T FOR HIM, WE WOULD HAVE BUILT THIS PYRAMID UPSIDE DOWN! CAN YOU IMAGINE?"

"Er, yikes," I said. "Yes, I could see how that might be an issue."

"HE STARTS EVERY MEETING WITH THE WORDS 'LET'S SLOW DOWN AND THINK.' I'VE MADE THAT OUR COMPANY MOTTO FROM NOW ON. AND LOOK AT OUR SALES FIGURES! GOING THROUGH THE ROOF NOW ALL BECAUSE OF HIS ATTENTION TO DETAIL."

"Wow, that's great! But I'm not surprised, really. Ooogie is a hard worker." I was really proud of my friend.

"YOU KNOW WHAT? I'M GOING TO PROMOTE YOU, OOOGIE!" his Boss exclaimed excitedly.

"Buuuuut youuuu juuuust prooomoted meeee laaast weeeek," Ooogie said.

"DID I? SEE, HE'S HONEST TOO. WELL, I'LL PROMOTE YOU AGAIN, SO WHAT? WHO CARES? I'M THE BOSS. ALRIGHT, I NEED MY 3RD CUP OF COFFEE THIS MORNING..."

It sounds like Ooogie is doing great at his new job! What do you think?

Ooogie gets fired

This morning, I was looking for Ooogie but could not find him anywhere. Then I saw him -- or just his shell -- in the living room.

"Hello?" I said, tapping the shell gently. "Is anyone home?"

Ooogie stuck his head out, but he looked very sad.

"Oh, what's the matter?" I asked him.

"I wasssss fiiiiired," said Ooogie.

"Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that!" I said. "From which job? I know you have several jobs."

"McDonaaaaald's," he replied.

"Oh hmm, I see." (I could kind of see why he was fired from McDonald's but I didn't say anything.)

"Well, don't worry about that. Humans get fired all the time! You've just got to find the right job for your skills and talents. And you have many!" I tried to encourage him.

"Buuuut whoooo waaaaaants to hiiiiiire sooooomeone sloooooow?" he replied.

"Ahh... hmm... now just give me a moment...." I tried to think of something, but nothing was coming to mind. There must be some type of job out there that is perfect for Ooogie... something... slow...

"AHA! I'VE GOT IT!" I said. "Ooogie, I think I have the perfect job for you!"

Olympic torch

Meditation class

Hi everyone, hope you're doing well! It seems that things have been more stressful than usual around the world recently, so I decided to sign up for a meditation class to help me relax.

I'm here at this place called OMMMMMM Meditation Studio.

Anyways, I've been waiting for the teacher to show up but so far no one is here --

"Sorryyyyy I'mmmmm laaaaate," said a familiar voice. It was Ooogie!

"Ooogie, I didn't know you taught meditation," I said.

"Yesssss, I dooooo. Hiiii Ajdiiiiin," he replied. Wow, what a guy! I can't keep up with all the jobs he's had so far: Santa's elf, driving instructor, DMV, McDonald's drive-thru, census taker, election official.

"Everyoneeeeee, let'ssss ssssstart wiiiith threeeee deeeeeeep breathssssss."

He rang the singing bowl to start.

~ ring ~

"Inhaleeeeee.... exhaleeee on OMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM."

"Inhaleeeeee.... exhaleeee on OMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM."

But there was no need for the third breath, because we all quickly fell into a deep sleep.

SOME TIME LATER...

~ ring ~

"Everyoneeeee geeeeently oooooopen yourrrrrrr eyesssss."

"Huh... where am I... what... wow... how long did I nap for?" I said, rubbing my eyes awake.

"Jusssst 30 minutesssss."

"Wow, I feel really refreshed!" I said.

"I'mmmm glaaaad youuuu enjoyeeeeeed it."

"Thanks for a great class, Ooogie! This was so relaxing. I'll recommend it to everyone!"

Census

This afternoon, I heard a knock at the door. I went to see who it was.

It was somebody green.

"Hellooooo," said Ooogie. He was carrying a binder.

"Hi Ooogie! What are you up to today?" I asked.

"I'm taaaking theee offiicial Uniiiteeed Staaates Ceeensuuus," he replied.

"The U.S. census? How many stuffies do you still have to survey?" I asked.

"Weeeeell, I aaam countiiing theee eeentire countryyyyy. Aaand youuu areee nuuumbeeer tweeentyyy threee," said Ooogie.

"What... that's still over 300 million something to go..." I couldn't believe it.

"Yesssss. Thaaaaank youuu fooor yoour tiiiime toooday. Haaave a niiice daaaay," he said.

Wow, what a guy. Ooogie never gives up. I wonder how long it will take Ooogie to complete this census. He still has to finish counting the election results, you know.

"Heeeellooooooo aaaaaand weeeeeelcome toooooo McDoooonald's," said a familiar voice.

Huh? Wait a second... I know that voice!

"Ooogie? Is that you?" I asked.

"Yesssssssssssss," he replied through the intercom.

"Oh, I didn't know you worked here! Okay, I'll have a Filet-O-Fish sandwich -- make that two sandwiches -- a large french fry, and a large vanilla milkshake."

"Okayyyyyyy. Soooooo thaaaaaaat's twoooooooo Fiiiiilet-Ooooooo-Fiiiiish saaandwichessssss, a laaaaaaarge freeeeeeench fryyyyyyyyyyyyyy, aaaaaaaand a laaaaaarge vaaaaaanillaaaaaaaaaa miiiiiiiilkshaaaaaaaake. Wiiiiiiill thaaaaaaat beeeeeee allll?"

"Yes, that's it, and you don't have to tell me the total. I'll just pull up --"

"Yoooooooooourrrrrr tooooooootal isssssssssss niiiiiine dollaaaaarrssssssss and fooooourteeeeeeeeen ceeeeeeeentsssssss. Pleeeeeeeeeaaasssssseeeeee puuuuuuull uuuuuuup toooooo theeeeeee neeeeext wiiiiiiiindooooooow. Thaaaaaaaaaank youuuuuuuu."

You know, I have to say that Ooogie is one of the hardest working stuffies that I know. He has several jobs, including driving instructor, DMV clerk, and election official. He is super talented... even though he might be a little slow. He is always trying new things and I really respect that!

I pulled up to the next window. Then I waited another 30 minutes.

"Hi Ooogie!"

"Hiiiiii Ajdiiiiiin."

"Heeeeeeere issssss yourrrrrrr oooooorder."

I looked in the bag. Yes, 2 Filet-O-Fish sandwiches, steaming hot fries, and a cold shake. Perfect!

"Alright, well I guess I'll see you at home, Ooogie," I said.

"Thaaaaaaaanksssss foooor coooooominggggg toooo McDooooonald'sssssss, Ajjjjjdin. Annnnnnd reeeemeeeeembeeeeer to driiiiiiive careeeeeefullllyyyyy."

"Thanks, I will!" After all, Ooogie did teach me how to drive slowly.
