CPR training

Bear Cub Scout Ajdin here! Today, I'm going to show you something beary important that could save someone's life. It's called CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and it's often used to help someone who isn't breathing in an emergency situation.

Before we get started, I've been advised by my attorney to add the following disclaimer to this post:
"This information is for entertainment purposes only. The creator of this content accepts no liability and/or responsibility for any actions and/or decisions any individual chooses to take or make based on the information offered. Readers should consult their local Red Cross for official CPR training."
Ok, now that we got the boring stuff out of the way, let's learn some CPR!

And we have a special guest today who will be helping us out - Uncle Tibbs!

I've asked Uncle Tibbs to lie down, simulating an unresponsive patient. I've already checked the scene to make sure it is safe for me to assist.

Now I'm going to tap him while I loudly shout, "ARE YOU OKAY?" This will help me make sure that he is indeed unresponsive and needs help, and is not just taking a nap.

"You've woken me up from naps before," said Uncle Tibbs.

Oh no, he doesn't appear to be breathing! Someone - that's you - call 9-1-1 right away!

In an emergency, you should always ask a specific person to call 9-1-1 due to the bystander effect.

Now I will prepare to give some chest compressions. For an adult stuffie or human, you want to locate the center of the chest.

Now, if Uncle Tibbs actually needed help, I would interlace my paws and push down on his chest at a rate of about 100-120 times per minute, for 30 chest compressions. I would also push down hard going down at least 2 inches.

"Oooh, this tickles!" he said.

For lighter stuffies, well, I guess you could try jumping on the chest as well...

After you've completed the chest compressions, follow this up with 2 rescue breaths. I'll show you how to use a CPR mask, like the one I have here.

This kit comes with a mask, some sterile gloves, and alcohol wipes.

It has a strap that goes around the head of the patient, and the whole thing goes over the nose and mouth. After tilting the head back and opening the airway, you want to give 2 rescue breaths, watching the chest rise each time.

Oh look, he is breathing again!

"Uh, thank you... for uh, rescuing me, Ajdin," said Uncle Tibbs.

We hope you and your loved ones stay safe with these tips!

Please consider signing up for a First Aid or CPR class at your local Red Cross organization.

Sunflower rock

Hello everyone! Today I'm going to be doing some arts and crafts. I have this paint set here and will be painting a rock with a sunflower design. When it's done, we'll leave it somewhere for someone to find - these are similar to the Kindness Rocks projects you might have heard about.

Woof?

Oh yes, you can help of course, Parker!

Alright alright, now we've got everything we need set up here. I'm painting this on a sheet of newspaper so it won't get on the carpet.

Parker is painting the inner part of the flower. He is quite a talented dog. Parker, have you been watching more of those Joy of Painting shows with Bob Ross?

Woof!

Now I will finish up with the orange paint.

And looks like we're done! We'll just let it dry and then put it somewhere for somebody to find.

What arts and crafts projects have you made lately?

Trash to Treasures Contest Results

A few weeks ago, I called upon my blog readers to give me their trashiest and craftiest creations - and they certainly did not disappoint! Let's take a look at the entries.

Beanie Mouse, crafter extraordinaire, did not disappoint with an amazing display of creative talent. Paper bags and scrap paper turned into...

...a junk journal! Beanie is known for crafting and always has a new project going on.

Next we have a wonderful entry from Jessica who says,

"This is Strawberry a sweet little bunny made from tiny fabric scraps , even her thread was recycled and her stuffing was collected from vitamin jars....also this is how she got a fluffy tail. She is the size of a quarter!"

What a cutie! That is a cute tail!

Next, we have an ingenious invention by Little Fox. He and his friend reindeer repurposed an empty bottle into a hummingbird feeder. I was impressed by their tenacity to overcome the obstacles in this project - they had a couple of hiccups at first, but look how it turned out!

They made a great team! Please let us know if you have any hummingbird visitors!

Finally, we have Sandy with an amazing creation, perfect for adventurous stuffies who like to go outside and explore.

This is a Marine Observation Capsule. You can see that Sandy has an excellent patent attorney, as this invention is already copyrighted, registered as a trademark, patented, etc.

Will this capsule be available for sale in other sizes, for larger stuffies, perhaps? Asking for a friend.

And the winner is... chosen randomly...

BEANIE MOUSE!

Congratulations Beanie! Thank you everyone for your wonderful entries, and keep on crafting!

Internet security

Hey everyone, today I'm going to talk about something that I've seen many humans struggle with -- internet security. It's also Safer Internet Day, so this makes for the perfect topic!

Now, how many of you have had trouble logging into an online account of some sort before? Raise your hand if I'm describing you.

If you forgot your password to an account, don't worry, because there is usually a "forgot password" link that you can follow to recover your password. I'm going to do that now.

And sometimes, you'll be asked to complete a CAPTCSA, which stands for Completely Automated Public Turing Test To Tell Computers and Stuffies Apart. This one is simple math equation.

See, that's all it takes to recover your --

Hey, wait a minute. Now I'm being asked to do another CAPTCSA. This one is asking me to identify all the farm animals in the picture.

CLICK, CLICK, CLICK!

Okay, that should be it then --

DING!

Huh? I just got a text message on my BlackBEARY.

I was just sent an authentication code via text message, which I now have to enter on my computer. Just bear with me... they seem to have added a couple more steps in retrieving passwords...

Let me just hit "enter" and we should be good to go --

What now??

I have to login to my bank account and verify two small deposits. Really?

Okay, done. Please tell me that's it?

No, no it's not. Now I got another code sent to me on my iPad.

But this should be the final step!

OK!

Now I'm being instructed to have my face scanned via this facial recognition app. This seems a bit intrusive, doesn't it?

I found some old passwords written down on a post-it note. Maybe I could try some of them and see if they work?

Would someone just please let me into my account?

Isn't technology supposed to make our lives easier?
